David Lynch’s film ‘The straight story’ (1999) began life when the writer read a newspaper article about an elderly man who set out on a lawnmower to find his long lost brother. Newspapers are a rich resource for all kinds of creative activity.
Give your students a stack of old newspapers and 15 minutes to find articles that strike them as quirky. Now discuss how these stories could be directly borrowed or paraphrased.
